Welcome to my first blog post on Runderful Life, and thank you for reading!
Since this is my first post, I want to introduce myself. I run cross country and track at Colorado State University, and am studying journalism in the class of 2024. Beyond this, I am a sister, daughter, lover of the outdoors, dog mom, a pretty darn good chef, and a coffee connoisseur (some may say addict, but if it’s wrong I don’t want to be right). I graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in Michigan, where my family lives, and committed to run at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I spent my freshman year before transferring to CSU.
While I am still young in my running career, I have gone through a unique set of life ~trials~ that I feel have given me the perspective that I simply must share. I have been confronted with circumstances that made me question who I am as a runner and what I really want to get out of this sport. From the death of my mother who was my biggest fan and inspiration, to a transfer that forced me to bet on myself, I have come out the other end, my love for running still intact. I might say I am even thriving, living in Colorado and running faster than ever with some new amazing friends.
My hope for this blog is that I can provide guidance or advice for the running community through my own experiences. My love for running has consumed my heart and mind in the best ways imaginable, but feeling so passionately about something also comes with lows. Some of these include injuries, a lack of confidence or comparing yourself to others, and deciding where to go to college. I would love for this platform to be a place where other runners can find validation, reassurance, and direction for the thrilling yet arduous challenges that our sport presents.
What you can expect from my weekly blog posts is an update on what’s up in my life as a student athlete (as a person, too), issues in the running world that I feel passionately about, advice or questions answered, and lastly, any podcast, recipe, or other tips and recommendations that are just too good not to be shared!!!
Podcast: Melody Fairchild on Mental Healthlete
Melody is the guest on this podcast by Mental Healthlete. Melody is a Boulder native, was a star through high school, college, and also into her professional career. What resonates most with me is her sense of self and her current work lifting up young runners. Melody provided me with the best advice I have received as a runner when I was going through the process of transferring.
Recipe: Superhero Muffins (OG)
I love the Run Fast Eat Slow books and especially the Superhero Muffins (this is the OG recipe). The best snack for pre-run, travel, and busy days! Make them on the weekend, then store in the freezer for when you have a busy week to get in some quality fuel so you can run quality miles.
Please feel free to reach out through my email, social media, or the discussion forum page on my website. I would love to hear your thoughts or questions!
Happy Running,
Anna
